A roadmap for several generations
Joacim Rickling is a grain farmer and a well-known name to many Swedes. In 2017, he appeared on the TV4 program Bonde söker Fru (Farmer Wants a Wife), where he and Caroline Kejbert found love. Together, they have two children and run a farm in Örsundsbro, Uppland. Joacim grew up with agriculture and has used the same road scraper from Vreten his entire life. But an unusual problem made him decide to get a new one.
Joacim explains that he runs a modern agricultural business with several farms in Uppland together with his father and brother. He is the third generation to live on the farm where he and his family currently reside. However, he explains that his family has been running a farm that has been passed down through the generations for much longer than that.

Their days are filled with various tasks, with agriculture as their main focus. In addition, the couple has farm shops, works with snow removal, sells firewood, and runs a company that designs company logos and stripes for company cars. The couple also shares their life in the countryside, where you can follow their everyday life on their YouTube channel or Instagram account Bondeparet.
Memories from childhood
To make the gravel roads at his popular farm extra nice, Joacim uses a road scraper from Vreten. It's a road scraper that his grandfather bought a long time ago, probably in the early 1960s. Joacim talks nostalgically about his childhood and growing up as a farmer's son. The best thing he knew when he came home from school was to sit in the tractor. He recounts one memory in particular. It was when he was little and sat with his dad or grandfather in the tractor and drove with the road scraper. Joacim says he was fascinated by how smooth and nice everything became. It gave him a feeling of satisfaction.
An unexpected and unusual problem
Joacim still drives the same road scraper that his grandfather and father used before him. But there is one problem that the family did not anticipate when they bought it. The road scraper is designed for left-hand traffic. Joacim explains that he is getting tired of driving on the wrong side of the road, so he has decided to buy a new one.
“All farms with a gravel road should have a Vreten road scraper” – Joacim Rickling
When we ask Joacim what he thinks is important when choosing a road scraper, he is clear. A road scraper should do its job; in short, it should smooth out a bumpy road. At the same time, it needs to have a weight that provides sufficient pressure on the road. He explains that this is something that Vreten's road scrapers deliver. It makes his job easier and simpler. Joacim also says that it is important that the ground does not become rutted, but is levelled out evenly and smoothly. He mainly uses it in the spring, especially after heavy rainfall when the ground is starting to dry out. However, he points out that, as with everything else, you have to take care of your equipment and look after it.
Powerful and durable steel
What keeps Joacim using Vreten is the quality. He explains that even though they have been using the road cable for 60 years, it is still going strong. If it weren't for the fact that it is designed for left-hand traffic, I would have continued to use it. The frames on the road cable are stable and do not bend. This is fascinating considering that it is subjected to considerable pressure against the ground.
Now we're keeping our fingers crossed
Joacim concludes by saying that he thinks all farms with gravel roads should have a Vreten road scraper. We completely agree with him and are keeping our fingers crossed that Sweden will continue to drive on the right and that Joacim will be able to use his road scraper for at least as many generations to come.
