A lot of forestry trailer for your money
Martin Engström, also known as Martin in Holma, works as a farmer and runs a forestry and dairy farm in northern Skåne with his family. He has also had forestry work as a side job for many years, both driving and manual felling, but has also driven a lot at home. Every year, he transports a total of around 2000 m3 of timber. We spoke to Martin to find out more about what he thinks of his forestry trailer from Vreten and how it helps him in his work.
Which forestry trailer do you have from Vreten?
– Now I have a 14-ton trailer with drive, and I use the 680 crane for that. Previously, I also had the 10-ton Vreten 1000 trailer.
How does the forestry trailer help you during your working days?
It saves me a tremendous amount of work and time. I usually start the day by checking whether it is suitable to drive. If it is frozen in the morning, I can drive as long as it is frozen, and cut in the afternoon when it thaws and the conditions are worse. This saves me a lot of rutting and soil compaction. The forestry trailer also gives me a lot of freedom in my work because it has a large load capacity, just like a real forwarder. In addition, the forestry trailer is strong and, thanks to its drive, it moves well and is very stable. I have rocky and rough terrain, so the drive helps a lot.
What are the advantages of the forestry trailer?
"I really like the center frame on the trailer; it's like a bent box and works on the same principle as a forwarder. Many other trailers have a center tube instead, which is what makes this one stand out from the crowd. The forestry trailer is also made of Strenx high-strength structural steel from SSAB, which makes it strong and able to handle heavy loads. Above all, it can withstand heavy use and I don't have to be as careful with it. I can admit that it has proven its worth.
Have you added any extra options to the forestry trailer?
It's a bit custom-made with extra options that I wanted. Among other things, I've had the drawbar raised. I also didn't want hoses on the top of the crane's pistons to prevent them from getting caught in branches. The drive is also optional, whether you want it at the front or rear, or on all four wheels. I also got help moving the bogie forward so that it would track better with the tractor. The equipment also includes mini levers that make it very easy to maneuver the crane.
How did the process of having it custom-built work?
– Vreten was very accommodating. I started by explaining what I wanted, and then Vreten made a drawing and showed it to me. As soon as I approved the drawing, they started production. It was flawless.
What would you say to someone considering buying a forestry trailer from Vreten?
– I can't help but recommend Vreten. It's a lot of forest wagon for your money.
